Sector: Building ServicesEmployment Type: Permanent Overview We are seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer (Piping) with a minimum 3+ years’ experience to support the delivery of mechanical pipework and associated mechanical services installations within the Life Sciences sector. More experienced candidates will also be considered as per the salary range. You will be responsible for producing high-quality design deliverables across concept, developed, and detailed design stages, while also supporting site installation and commissioning activities. This role offers the opportunity to work on technically engaging projects within a collaborative, multi-disciplinary engineering environment.Key Responsibilities Produce concept, developed, and detailed mechanical designs for pipework and associated mechanical services installations Develop and maintain 3D models, piping isometrics, and general arrangement (GA) drawings Prepare bills of materials (BOMs), valve and equipment schedules, and technical specifications Develop and maintain a design risk register in line with CDM regulations Design and detail steelwork supports for pipework and mechanical equipment Ensure designs comply with client design guides, industry standards, and approved procedures Carry out site surveys to support design development and validate installation constraints Provide technical support to site installation and commissioning activities Coordinate with civil, electrical, and instrumentation engineers to ensure integrated design deliveryAbout You HNC, HND, or Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline Minimum 3 years’ experience as a Mechanical Design Engineer with piping design responsibility Proficient in AutoCAD and AutoCAD Plant 3D Experience producing piping isometrics, layouts, and fabrication-ready drawings Understanding of mechanical services, pipework materials, and installation methods Comfortable working both independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary teamWhat We Offer Competitive salary depending on experience WFH up to 2 days per week Matched or contributory pension scheme Online GP service, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year Employee assistance programme My Rewards portal, access to 1000’s of retail discounts Life assurance Cycle to work, salary finance and give as you earn schemes Reward and recognition scheme 25 days annual leave plus bank holidays Hybrid working and flexible hours Long-term project pipeline and job security Supportive engineering team with development and progression opportunities Flexible working arrangements where applicableType: PermanentCategory: Life ScienceDate Posted: 2026-01-13
